Description

A simple and balanced homemade Americano using a moka pot for a rich coffee experience.

Ingredients

  • Freshly roasted coffee beans, medium-fine grind for moka pot
  • Filtered water
  • Optional: sugar, simple syrup, milk, or cream

Instructions

  1. Heat water in your kettle until just off a boil.
  2. Fill the bottom chamber of your moka pot with the hot water up to the safety valve.
  3. Grind coffee medium-fine. Fill the basket loosely to the top, then level it. Do not tamp.
  4. Assemble the moka pot and set it over medium heat with the lid open.
  5. When the coffee begins to flow steadily, reduce the heat slightly.
  6. Once the top chamber is almost full and the stream turns pale, remove from heat and cool the bottom under the tap.
  7. Pour your moka pot concentrate into a mug. Add hot water at a 1 to 2 ratio to start, stir, taste, and adjust with more water if needed.

Notes

Use freshly ground coffee for the best flavor. Preheating your water reduces bitterness.
