Ingredients

- 2 cups water
- 2 cups milk (whole, 2%, oat, almond, soy, or cashew)
- 4 sticks of cinnamon (or 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon)
- 4 vanilla pods, split and scraped (or 4 teaspoons vanilla extract)
- 4 teaspoons loose black tea (or 4 black tea bags, optional)
- Honey or sweetener of choice (to taste)
- 2 star anise (optional)
- A pinch of ground cardamom, nutmeg, or allspice (optional)
- A touch of cream or condensed milk (optional)
- A few tablespoons of vanilla or cinnamon syrup (optional)
- Garnishes: A sprinkle of cinnamon, a piece of vanilla pod, or a cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Measure out the cinnamon and prepare the vanilla pods if using.
- In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a gentle boil.
- Add the cinnamon sticks and vanilla seeds along with their pods to the boiling water and let steep for about 10 minutes.
- If using black tea, add it to the infusion and steep for another 3 to 5 minutes.
- In another saucepan, gently heat 2 cups of milk until steaming but not boiling.
- Strain the spice infusion into the warm milk.
- Sweeten to taste with honey or preferred sweetener, and optionally add cream for richness.
- Serve hot or iced, garnishing as desired.
Notes
Feel free to experiment with different sweeteners and milk types to customize this drink to your taste. Don’t forget to strain the infusion to maintain a balanced flavor.
